MIO FELTFRAMES - BRIEF
With the growing demand of COVID related wall partitions, we began to study this trend and develop our own partition. Using MIO Culture’s existing felt tiles, we began to figure out how to bring this product to market as quickly as possible.
Role:

MIO FeltForm Tiles
This product was designed to dramatically improve acoustics in a room using sound absorption, and to replace old drop ceiling tiles. These are most commonly used in living rooms, home theatres and offices.
Absorption
The diagram below shows how sound interacts with the felt material. Instead of bouncing off a surface, the sound waves are stopped and absorbed in the non-woven material.
Development.
Since we were using an existing product line to expand from, the design process was different from what I was used to. We had to source a manufacturer to make the extruded aluminum frames and focus on the design elements that will differentiate this product from the current market. Developing the feet had a big impact on the partitions look. We knew we wanted to make a version with casters for mobility and an option without the casters for more permanent uses.
Caster Pill - Out of all the prototypes, this concept had the most striking form while still concealing the casters.
Half Rec - This option is for more permanent orientations where the partitions aren’t being moved as much. This also allows the partitions to be set up side by side.
